"The warrior spirit reminds me that no one can stop me today: That this is my day. Hidden inside of me is a warrior who reacts on instinct waiting to be released. As I buckle my chinstrap, instinct consumes my body and mind, knowing that I have worked harder and prepared myself to conquer the player across from me. Fatigue plays no favorites in football. Fatigue only fears those who have worked hard in the days before the game. I visualize myself making plays only champions could make. The battlefield is made up of warriors that play an intense game based upon the elements of speed, strength and endurance".

10-12's take the Championships !!
Everybody
As it turned out, head coach Keith Forsey’s preseason hunch was correct – the 10- to-12-year-old M.O.T. Centennial football team was loaded with talent and personal character this season. The parents were great, too.
The Cavs went 11-0 this season and captured the Harford-Baltimore County Youth Football League championship with a thrilling 18-13 victory over the Overlea (Md.) Orangemen. The game was played at Double Rock Park in Parkville, Md.
“When practice began in August, I had a really good vibe about this team,” Forsey said. “I’ve been in sales for 10 years and observe body language. The guys looked like hard workers and there didn’t appear to be any problem kids or bullies.
“Before practices they had fun with each other throwing the ball around, and then were ready to go to work. They were athletic kids with a good work ethic, and that’s a good combination.”
Forsey said the Cavs biggest tactical strength this fall was running hard to stop sweep plays.
“The sweeps were strong all season, thanks to great blocking and strong running from T.J. Brown, Chris Whitlock and Danny Livingston,” Forsey said. “All three had different style and were effective in their own ways.”
It was also a big advantage to have two quality quarterbacks – Darius Wade and Tyler Leitzke.
“Both were great passers, and they were also very smart,” Forsey said. “They were able to read defenses and tell when blitzes were coming, so we never had to worry about them making the right decision.”
The biggest challenge to perfection came in week nine of the regular season against eventual championship foe Overlea, when the Cavs found themselves in a scoreless tie at halftime. M.O.T. took control in the second half and took a 13-0 win in a match of two unbeaten teams.
M.O.T. won out in the second half thanks to a quality depth of players. The coaching staff used everyone on the roster and the team was fresher in the third and fourth quarters because of it. During the season, the Cavs ended practices with sprints to further the conditioning edge.
“It helps to get everyone involved and not rely so heavily on star players,” Forsey said. “We stayed strong and you could see on the game film that they began to get tired.”
Forsey coached a core group of 10 players for the past four years, and combined them with several talented newcomers each season. His teams often made the playoffs and had winning records, but couldn’t go all the way until 2008.
“Every year I felt like we were three or four kids away from having a complete team,” Forsey said. “This year it all came together.”
Forsey personally dedicated his season to his late father Kenneth (a long-time Philadelphia police officer), who died during the 2007 campaign. Son Keith wore his dad’s T-shirt under his coaching clothes this season.
“I didn’t tell the kids about that until after the championship game,” Forsey said. “It was my own thing and I didn’t want to put any pressure on them. My dad wasn’t big into sports, but he always came to my games to take pictures and get the scrapbook kind of stuff.”
The Cavs offense was skillfully guided in the title game by quarterback Wade, who completed key passes to receivers Hunter Vandenbraak, Alex Somelofske, Brandon Cristi and Matthew Pinkett. Running backs Brown, Whitlock and Livingston added balance to the Cavs offensive assault to keep the Orangemen off balance throughout the night.
Brown, Wade and Whitlock each scored rushing touchdowns behind linemen Dustin Snyder, Cody Reynolds, Josh Silvestri, Leitzke, Austin Mark, Jared O’Brien and Brian Machamer. In addition to opening huge holes for the running backs, the line did not allow Wade to be sacked during the game.
Middle linebacker and defensive signal caller Dan Turk set the tone for the night early in the first quarter by pounding Overlea’s best running back behind the line of scrimmage on a designed run blitz. Several plays later, cornerback Stephen Sears delivered a hit to force a fumble, which was recovered by Somelofske.
The Cavs employed an attacking defense throughout the night to overpower the fleet-footed Orangemen. Defensive tackles Mark, Somelofske, Snyder, O’Brien, Storm Smith and Thunder Smith were all effective at controlling the middle of the field. Defensive ends Brown, Leitzke, Keenan Forsey and Nick Ogbin ensured that Overlea’s ball carriers did not escape for big gains. Linebackers Turk, Wade, Silvestri, Machamer and Brian Aube delivered punishing hits when called upon.
M.O.T.’s defensive secondary was led by free safety Whitlock, whose fourth quarter interception ended Overlea’s hopes for victory. Cornerbacks Pinkett, Sears and Anthony Rivera, and strong safeties Reynolds and Livingston worked tirelessly in the frigid conditions to limit Overlea’s passing game, and provided key run support.
The victory was preserved by the Cavs special teams units, which recovered three onside kick attempts and denied the Orangemen field position while covering kickoffs.
Outstanding player awards were presented to Brown (Offense), Whitlock (Defense) and Mark (Lineman). Additionally, Leitzke was presented with the American Heritage award prior to kickoff in recognition of his academic and athletic accomplishments.
Coach Forsey and his staff would like to thank the team mom, Lynn Snyder, all of the parents, extended family, cheerleaders and the M.O.T. community for their strong show of support throughout this championship season.
“We had some challenges, but overcame them all together, as families do,” Forsey said. “When you bring kids together to work as a team, it can be tough to teach them discipline and a team-first attitude.
“These kids had no ‘me-first’ egos, came from good households and families. Their parents were great to work with and never caused any distractions. It was a joy to go through the season together with all of them.”
